RAEE management legislation

On February of the year, in RD 208/2005 of the 25th of February published the following Directives in the BOE on electric and electronic devices and the management of waste incorporated to the national legislation:

  • Directive 2003/96/EC of the European Parliament and the Council, of the 27th of January 2003, on electric and electronic device waste.

  • Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and the Council, of the 27th of January 2003, on the restrictions on the use of determined dangerous substances in electric and electronic devices.

The said legislation establishes a series of standards applicable to the manufacturing of products and others related to the correct environmental legislation when the said devices become waste.

RD 208/2005 requires the producers of electric and electronic devices the adoption of measures required for the selective collection and correct environmental management of the waste of the said devices marketed.

These obligations can be met individually or through the use of one or various Integrated Management Systems (SIG).

RD 208/2005 came into force on the 27th of February 2005, so that after the 13th of August 2005, all electric and electronic device producers were required to fulfil their main obligations (management of waste and marking of devices).
